This book is a well-crafted collaboration between writer and illustrator, packed full of easy to read information and outstanding illustrations. Who knew that this gentle Weta had such a rich history. The text is perfectly aimed at upper primary, but will be enjoyed across all age groups.
As someone who loves the New Zealand bush and all of its inhabitants, I am certain that this book will change many views of this much maligned insect and give readers a better appreciation of the conservation work currently being carried out. The rhyming words opposite the descriptive passages expand the ways in which this book can be enjoyed.
As for the motto – keep calm and carry on – perfect!
(Terry was the illustrator for Fearless Fred and the Flood)
