beyond the fire
the old factory lies abandoned
overgrown and fire-damaged
where footsteps once echoed
only wind and rain remain
These are the remains of the original Ruawai Co-operative Dairy Company Butter Factory that was established in 1915, but which has been out of use for many years. For a while there was an apartment on the upper level of the factory, but that was abandoned and was destroyed by fire in March 2015.
Bush fires have always happened in Australia, and many seeds have evolved to utilise the tremendous heat of the fires to trigger germination and renewal. And we also will come through the fire changed and renewed.
‘But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appears, for he is like a refiners fire…’
